This is the final version of the model and texture for 3dtotal's "Good vs Evil" contest. I failed to meet the deadline, but i finished it regardless.

model: 7985 triangles
texture: 1024x1024 diffuse

My intention was to create a Good character from the Renaissance age, a Thief Girl who is kind of a vigilante: she steals from rich people and devides the loot between the poor. So she is not really a warrior, much more of a person who tries to avoid violence.

I saw this on the Polycount update and got to take a closer look :) As I've recently ventured into hand painting characters myself I can see what a good job you did - I struggle with the folds and you've nailed them :) Keep up the awesome work.

Thx man! I'm glad if you feel that way... although at the time i had much less knowledge of handpainting and projection painting, so i did this work to experiment with softwares and solutions. In the end i got so frustrated and uninspired that i put this work away half done never to be finished. About 3 weeks later i decided to finish it anyways with my knowledge at the time, regardless of the many confusing stuff i experimented with, and with my own method to painted textures. 
So what i wanted to say is that this style i have here is not too appealing, after those experiments settled down in my brain. I learned and advanced a lot, and i felt this work doesn't really represent my skills, but i really loved to work on her and i thought people might appreciate that. Guess what, since than this is my most popular work :) 

Sorry for the wall of text, keep up the practicing :) it's always worth it :)

It's so inspiring to hear how the work came about. When I see a great piece, a lot of the time I imagine the artist magically just sitting down and producing it. You don't often visualise the learning and the struggle it can take! I'm interested when you say it doesn't represent your skills - which of your pieces do you think represents them the best? 

I started creating hand painted textures about 8 months ago, I remember seeing your work on Polycount in your texturing improvement thread - it really inspired me to give it all a go and yep no regrets there. It is always worth it when you see your collection of work getting better and better :)

well problem is i have a lot of knowledge i didn't have at the time i made this thief girl :) 
so that's why i say this works doesn1t represent my skills at the present. though i couldn't say other 3d works of mine do, since... welll :D it's really complicated. let's say at my dayjob i need to find the balance between productivity, through technical limitations and between doing something i'm satisfied with. so it's really difficult :D let's forget about this topic, ok? :) 
and yeah, it's not always that simple, at least not for me :) particularly this project of mine involved a lot of struggling :)

Man, why can't all game models have that coloring style lol. I like how bold the character feels despite being in drab browns.
